NVIDIA Corporation, or basically known as NVIDIA, is an American technology company. It is situated in Delaware an originally in Santa Clara, California. It is a company that is renowned for the manufacturing of design graphics processing units abbreviated to G.P.U. for professional and gaming. Apart from this, NVIDIA also manufactures mobile chips and automotive chips known as system-on-chip units. These days not only teenagers but, adults are also into gaming. Nowadays, families can now just sit back and relax at their homes by switching on their consoles and laying back on their couch or bed. Streaming has become a new means of occupation and gaming streams are rising in popularity. Consoles and P.C. gamers can be found everywhere, maybe more than expected in our vicinity. Earlier, it was just for recreation and relaxation. Gaming was a means of passing the time, and for some people like strict parents, it was nothing but, just a waste of time.
But now, the gaming industry is a lot bigger, and it has turned into a huge business. Gamers these days, demand new materials and content in their games as well as in their hardware. They always opt for a better choice depending on their compatibility and means of providing pleasure. And for Android gamers, NVIDIA has specially designed a magnificent device that crosses the boundary and introduces gamers to a whole new experience of android gaming. That groundbreaking device is named as ‘NVIDIA Shield’.
The sophistication of the device is quite tacky and allows the user to tap into a lot of intriguing options. The NVIDIA Shield was first launched as a portable gaming device on which we can play the android games of our liking. The device was designed to be comfortable for the players and was specifically designed to provide a console-like experience to mobile gamers. It is the same as what Sony did with their play-station, or Microsoft, with their X-box or other popular companies such as Nintendo, Wii, etc. These companies brought a console type experience to the P.C. gamers, which was more comfortable and was designed for true gaming.

Android O.S. based games like Zenonia, Dungeon hunter, MOBA Legends, Dragon Raja, etc. would feel completely different on a portable device with the controller, which is pretty good in both utility and appearance.
Recently, a new model of Shield had been released which is exactly like our modern generation home-based console, called ‘NVIDIA Shield TV’. This device astounded many reviewers due to its improved functionality and game library. This device brought the android gamers a complete console-like experience that is praised among the community. We shall learn more about the specifications of the device in the later parts of the content.
SPECIFICATIONS
NVIDIA shield portable, also known as N.S.P. or project shield, was first launched in the year 2013. It was designed to run on Android version 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and was capable to be upgraded to Android version 5.1 Lollipop. It was the 8th generation handheld console that was released at a starting price of $299 USD. The system on a chip used in the console was Tegra 4 which is developed by NVIDIA. It has a 2GB DDR3L RAM i.e. ( Double Data Rate 3 Synchronous Dynamic Random-Access Memory )

It is powered with a very powerful A.R.M. Cortex-A15 quad-core processor who has a clock speed of 1.9 Giga Hertz. The inbuilt ram had a memory of 2GB of DDR3L version. The R.O.M. was designed to be of 16GB flash memory with an inbuilt card reader. It can be extended up to 256GB using an external micro S.D. card.

It is very light and compact just 20.42 ounces or 570 grams and with the product dimensions as 6x1x4 inches. The display unit is 5 inches (13 cm) 1280×720 px IPS LCD which had a resolution of 295ppi and a refreshed rate of 30 fps. It has a great multi-touch enabled (capacitive) screen with an inbuilt global positioning system, i.e. G.P.S., a microphone, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope for in-game purposes.

The graphics processing unit is NVIDIA’s home-built 72 GeForce graphics card. The main attraction is its D-pad type controller unit. The button configuration is similar to the X-BOX controller with the X, Y, A, B layout. Along with 2 analog sticks at either side and a D-pad at the left with 2 bumper buttons and trigger were positioned at left and right bottom corners. The N.S.P. has an in-built Wi-Fi card with a bandwidth of 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz, a micro S.D. slot, a USD 2.0 slot, Bluetooth 3.0, Audio jack of 3.5 mm and a mini HDMI slot. It has a battery capacity of 7350 mAh or 28.8 Wh.

Nvidia Shield Portable or N.S.P. can easily be attached with a television supporting a video quality of any of the 720p, 1080 HD or 4k UHD resolutions. You can run any P.C. game on Nvidia Shield Portable which supports GeForce GTX 650 or higher graphic card. Also, you can play games from Android’s Google Play Store. And can also play some exclusive and limited edition games available on GeForce NOW stream service and Nvidia’s home market i.e. TegraZone. You can also connect a Bluetooth joystick or keypad with it.
But in recent years, when NVIDIA Shield TV was released, it was far superior to its handheld predecessor with a streaming capability of 4K Ultra High Definition. It also supports HEVC encoded video. The console is simply to be connected to the T.V., and the controller is separate. The controller is an enhancement to the previous model, and the console comes in variations of 8 G.B. flash memory model, 16 G.B. flash memory model and 500 GB harddisk model with a microSD card reader which is expandable up to 256 GB. It also comes with 2 or G.B. A.R.M. Cortex-A 57 CPU with a clock speed of 2.4 Giga Hertz. The system on chip is NVIDIA’s home-built Tegra X1 and Tegra X1+. It is priced the same as its predecessor i.e. USD $299.99.
The console is supported by a stand which also acts as a heat sink. The console is Wi-Fi enabled and has Bluetooth 4.1, 2 USB 3.0 ports with a micro USB port, an HDMI 2.0 port, and a type-C power slot. The refresh rate can be up to 60 fps, and when we connect it to the T.V. we experience the difference between the 2 models.
Comparison of modals
We experience the difference between the 2 models. In comparison to its previous model, it is NVIDIA shield T.V. is designed to run on Android 7.0 Nougat and can be easily be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo.
Some accessories can be connected with the latest model, and they come in handy while navigating the console U.I.
The later model, which was connected with the T.V. also had a mixed response. Since it was considered expensive and other competitors did the job better at a lesser price.

Response from the crowd
The NVIDIA shield had a mixed review upon its release. The console was fresh and had good specs, but the community wasn’t that supportive when it came to android gaming. The people who played android games were happy with their phones. Most of them were reluctant to spend $300 for the device. The competition was tough when the console was in a duel with better consoles like PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS. The games were limited, and the options available for the players weren’t much. But it did its part nonetheless.

Conclusion
Nvidia shield portable: The console was a fresh breath of air and was pretty unique at its design. But the response wasn’t that effective, and the community support for the device was already low. Gamers who are dedicated to gaming were supportive as usual and liked the new console and even supported by buying it. In the end, the community was better suited to other appliances, and since the fan support was low, the outreach was limited too. The NVIDIA shield a great device and has its perks, but the downside is its pricing and the game service. Is it worth it? For the ones who want to invest in this are hard-core gaming fans. But there are other better options for the general public.
