Way how to unsend a message on iPhone

Well, first of all let me make this clear that this feature is currently only available for IOS 16. Yes, you must possess IOS 16 to use this feature to unsend or edit your messages. This feature is officially going to be released later this year, likely at the same time of iPhone 14’s launch(probably this September).

Although this feature is not released yet, we still got information on how the unsend/edit feature will work so, stick with us to know more information about this topic in near future. Steps on to unsend a message on iPhone are as follow:

  • Choose the message, which you want to delete.
  • Press and hold the chosen message.
  • Click on “Undo Send”
  • And boom! The message has been deleted/recalled/unsent from the recipient’s device, in just a blink of an eye.

If you wish to get this feature earlier than other people, you can sign up for Apple Beta Software Program. It lets you use the application before others and review it.

This feature was already available on some messaging applications like instagram, whatsapp but now, apple also has introduced unsend feature in their iMessage application. Unsend feature in iMessage will be available for mobile and desktop with their latest updates. Some of you might have already installed IOS 16 by signing up for Apple Beta Software Program or the macOS Venture developer beta.

And if you all want to learn how to use this feature, then continue reading this article because I am going to tell you everything you want to know about the unsend feature. Okay! Just follow me to know about how to unsend messages on your iPhone, iPad and Mac.

But before I guide you on how to unsend iMessage, let me clear a few things with you all first. The things I want to clarify are:-

  • I have already mentioned that in order to use the Unsend feature you must have IOS 16 and the IOS 16 is not out yet, it is currently in beta. The IOS 16 will be available for all of us later this fall. The feature also works on the latest iPadOS 16 macOS Venture developer beta updates.
  • In other words it means that if you try to unsend a text to someone using any other older IOS version then the text you wanted to undo will not be undone for the person on the other side and they are still going to see the text in the conversation.
  • If the person on the opposite side is using iOS 16, the person will receive a notification that a message was unsent. Pretty painful right? that after you tried to be this sneaky and they are going to find out that you have unsent a text from the conversation. They are going to know about this without breaking a sweat but if they did not see the preview when the real text was delivered, they are not going to get any idea about this whole thing.
  • One more painful thing about this matter is that the Unsend feature is only limited for up to 15 minutes after sending the message. What if you regret about the text that you sent after 15, what are you going to do? You will not be able to unsend the message. So, you have to make your mind about the message in under 15 minutes because you have not got all the time to correct your mistake and if you can not reach to a decision in under 15 minutes then just sit back and regret about it (or you can cry about it too)
