Before Rooting

1. Ensuring the presence of correct drivers in your PC

Drivers are a bunch of files that allow your PC’s hardware to interact with its operating system and the rest of the software. When it comes to rooting, there is a need for your computer to interact with your phone or tablet. So you need the right drivers.

In the case of Samsung devices, the drivers that need to be installed are only available over Windows OS. But for other devices, you can find them on Windows, Linux, and Mac platforms. Just find the file with the help of your browser, extract the zip file after downloading, and install the needed files.

2. Finding out the Model Number and Android version

CF Auto Root has come up with several versions to work properly with each and every model it supports. Therefore, you need to know which version of the software you have to install. And to identify the correct version, you have to know your phone’s model number. Here is how you can find it.

Open Settings on your device.
Scroll down till you find the About Phone option and tap on it.
Note the number under the Model number or Serial number section.

The model number is not enough to find the ideal version of CF for you. So you also have to look up the Android version of your phone. Don’t worry, you can find it right next to the Model Number.

3. Downloading the correct version of CF Auto Root

Now that you have installed the necessary drivers and looked up the info you need, you can proceed to download the software itself.

Open your preferred browser.

Use it to go to CF Auto Root’s official site.

Scroll down to the bottom of the site, and you will see a large table with details like OEM, model, Build ID, Android version, and so on.

Use the data you have to find the version of the software you need and then click on the Download option.

After downloading the file, go to the file location.

Right-click on the ZIP file.

Choose the Extract option.

Rooting a Samsung device

The way you root a device belonging to Samsung is a bit different than how those of all the other devices are rooted. Hence this separate section just for it.

Switch off your mobile.

Press the volume up button, the home button, and the power button at the same time.

A pop up appears. As per its instructions, pressing the volume up button will put the device in Download mode, and pressing the volume down button will cancel the process. Choose the former.

Connect one end of the USB to the phone and the other to the PC.

Open the folder which contains the files extracted from CF Auto Root ZIP.

Find the .exe file named Odin3 and then right-click it.

Select the Run as administrator option.

Odin’s screen will appear soon. After it appears, don’t make a move till the box under ID: COM section turns blue.

After the color change, select the AP button. You will find it at the screen’s center.

Now a new screen will appear, asking you to browse a folder. Go to the location where you found the Odin3 file. But this time, choose the one named CF-Auto-Root-xxx-xxx-xxx.tar.md5 file.

The xxx-xxx-xxx part above refers to certain digits and letters that vary with each phone model.

After choosing the file, press Open.

Next, pay all attention to the contents under the Log tab in the Odin3 screen.

Once you see a Leave CS message under it, click on the Start option at the bottom of your screen. This will start the process.

Wait for it to finish. And after that, your phone will reboot automatically.

Rooting a Non-Samsung device

Rooting a device that does not belong to Samsung is not so difficult. It is just a bit different. All you need to do is to follow the instructions below, and you will be done in no time.

Switch off your device.

Press the volume button and power button together and keep holding them for some time. The bootloader menu will appear.

At this stage, make use of the USB cable.

Get on your PC. Go to the folder where you extracted the Zip file. And open it.

There will be three “root” files in that folder, each compatible with a different OS (Windows, Linux, and Mac). Choose the one you need and double-click it.

Now a Command Prompt window will appear on your screen. This indicates the beginning of the rooting process.

Hit any on the keyboard to root.

After that, your phone screen will show a red Android logo, and there will be a lot of text scrolling on it. This just means that it is being rooted.

Your phone will reboot on its own after rooting is done.
