So an anvil is a tool in Minecraft that is used to repair and name tools. It is also used to enchant your tools, hence making them stronger and durable. An anvil follows physics, so it gets damaged when you throw it. It also imparts damage to the zombie or mob you throw it on. Now since it gets damaged, it first turns to slightly damaged anvil, and finally to a very damaged anvil and then breaks.

How to craft an Anvil in Minecraft?

First things first. To craft an anvil, you need to get some iron ore. Turn them into iron ingot by smelting them in the furnace. You need 4 iron ingots and 3 blocks of iron in order to make an anvil. Hence, in total you need 31 iron ingots (which is quite expensive if you ask me, in case you haven’t got a good mine or cave yet).

Let’s look at the steps of crafting the anvil.

Step 1: Make a crafting table and right click to open it.

It costs 1 experience level to complete the enchant. Click on the new name tag with the added name and store it in your inventory.

Step 4: Finally, it’s time to put the name tag on your mob. Let’s say, you want to name your dog Sven (yes, that’s the coolest name for a dog that Pewdiepie has discovered). So, type in “Sven” in the name box. After that, reach your dog. Point your crosshair (or mouse) at it and right click on the dog with the name tag selected. Your dog is now named Sven, that shows up every time you point at it.

2. Repair your tools

That’s another cool thing to do with the anvil. So let’s take a stone sword as an example here. You have two stone swords, one almost damaged (red bar) and one slightly damaged. With two of them, you can have a new stone sword (with no damage). This is how you can do it.
