Android Beam

Here’s our guide to what Android Beam is and, most specifically, how it functions to help you get the best out of your equipment.

Field Communication Technology (NFC) has spread like a forest wildfire into the mobile world, and how many of us are really using it, let alone making successful use of it?

We all know how NFC functions (if not, then here’s what you need to know about NFC) but one of the main features is still being tucked away and unused; Google’s Android Beam.

Basic information about Android beam

Android Beam is a smartphone-to-device data-sharing platform that utilizes Near-field communication (NFC) and Bluetooth to share images, pictures, contact information, website connections, navigation instructions, YouTube URLs, and more from one computer to another only by bumping them together. The functionality was first introduced in 2011 but enhanced after Google bought the once-popular Bump device.

At this point, “beaming” and NFC technologies had hardly been recent. Even, Apple only introduced Airdrop in the iOS 7 update which was released in 2013 and Samsung introduced S Beam that uses NFC and Wi-Fi Direct which was released in 2012. NFC also supports contactless payment services including the Apple Pay and Android Pay schemes.

The downside of using Android Beam is that transferring files directly to another device is an easy and efficient way without downloading it to cloud-based providers such as Google Drive and Dropbox. The drawback is that you need to have an NFC sensor on the computer you are beaming, so it needs to be right next to you.

The same system is also utilized by Google in the set-up phase for all Android phones — Tap & Go. If you are switching to a new handset and your old one has an NFC button, you will easily tap the two apps together to move all of your profiles and data during the initialization process for the new model. You don’t need to set up the latest phone manually from start, either way.

How to use

It’s pretty quick to set up Android Projector. First, make sure it has an NFC sensor on your screen. The best way to do so is to switch over to Preferences. Further, keeping from looking things up.

It will be sitting immediately below Data Consumption, although it may differ in position depending on your computer. This will take you to the Wireless & Networks section. Here, you will see an NFC click. Any smartphones, such as Google’s Nexus models, may also include a concise overview and Android Beam change.

If you do not see NFC or Android Spotlight, it can not actually be your phone’s. If you see NFC but don’t see Android Ray, don’t worry, it’s always meant to function. It will be a bit difficult to find NFC in cheaper devices but all high tech smartphones have it.

Again, for this to work, all devices require NFC, so make sure that the computer you choose to move data to does have it.

What does it require?

Android Beam doesn’t require an internet connection as it uses NFC, making sure you can transfer data and content offline. NFC can switch Bluetooth on once the transfer is complete, it can turn it off. Once you have NFC allowed, in the status bar you should see an N logo signaling you are ready to go.

Next, you will bring up the unique information you want to post. Notice that certain tools, such as the HTC 10, don’t support massive file transfers via Beam. At this stage, it is safer to try using Wi-Fi Direct with an app such as SuperBeam or access and upload content to a cloud storage service such as Google Drive. But it doesn’t stop you to use Beam.

How to transfer data?

First, open the image, picture, text, text, YouTube stream, device or something else you want to move. Place the two machines back to back and make sure all of them have the light switched on. You will feel a buzz instantly, and see the words “Press to Beam” show on the screen on which you submit the material.

NFC sensor might be present in another region, so the user may not be able to see it. Android devices do not necessarily have the same region for the NFC sensor, and you may need to shift the back of all devices around before you notice the sensation. You can see updates on both apps when you touch the button to beam the contents. One claiming it is submitting information, and the other stating it is receiving material. That is it! Upon installing the file, you can open it through the note.

The same is valid if you choose to submit material from another site, such as a web link or, say, a YouTube video. Click on the picture that has to be uploaded to YouTube, keep both devices back-to-back that may or may not touch each other but make sure they are close. Then tap the link Which will display the image you want to see. The other computer will open the YouTube software immediately, and the video will start running, but you will get a message asking if you would like to support opening the file. You would be brought to the Google Play Store to update it because you do not have YouTube or the device that the material is sent from the activated version. And if you don’t always understand us, you can use the step-by-step method described above in the picture.

Challenges it has to face

It’s understandable that selling Android Beam is challenging for Google because there are too many factors that decide a positive outcome. It is compulsory for both systems to have NFC and due to irrelevant placement of the chip devices may have to rub against each other. The explanation may be a bit humiliating.

Even, it’s a convenient and helpful app and it operates offline. If you have NFC and Android Beam on your computer, we suggest that you hold them all the time, as they have a marginal impact on the battery life of your system. This way, with a fellow Android customer, you’re still able to move things easily.

What if your device doesn’t show Android beam?

As Android Beam comes built into the Android Kernel, you don’t have a different device to wake up. Instead only allow and click NFC on both handsets. Often smartphone manufacturers allow you to individually switch on and off NFC and App Spotlight.

If you note that inside the Android NFC settings, Android Beam does not work, you shouldn’t be concerned. The HTC One is a prime example, as there is no Android Beam connection anywhere; but the “Click to Beam” page that we listed earlier can still be pulled up after the above steps.

What are the downsides?

One of Android Beam’s main problems is NFC and the chips ‘position. NFC supply is no longer an issue because it now exists on all of the cheapest handsets, but first-placing the chip may be a pain in the ass.

The issue in cell phones isn’t too terrible considering that there’s little room to pick from but attempting to find the chip on a tablet can be more than a little difficult.

This can also identifid with a fast-online scan, but you must still find a way to bring the two chips together. We noticed in testing that although the NFC chips acknowledged the existence of each other (with a slight vibration), the receiving handset often did not want to record Beam.

Perhaps worth remembering, if not instantly obvious, the Android Beam only fits for iOS phones, too.

Future

Android Beam has evolved since its creation to include transmitting files through Bluetooth. This functions by immediately connecting devices and turning Bluetooth on, submitting the file to Bluetooth and then disabled. Then you can switch the phones apart since they no longer depend on NFC.

Even as S-Beam integrates Wi-Fi Direct, so will Android Beam gains support from the latest patent licensing agreement between Google and Samsung. This would make file transmission much faster than Bluetooth.

It’s not too hard to imagine Android Beam being part of the Internet of Things on one stretch either, enabling you to tap your phone against an Android-enabled refrigerator to share a shopping list or a potentially updated Chromecast dongle to activate Wi-Fi Direct video streaming to a larger nearby computer.

Although NFC hasn’t yet caught on as a means of payment, there’s still a strong willingness to discover interesting ways to communicate here’s the expectation that Android Beam can start to get the growth it deserves.

Conclusion

Android Beam is a revolutionary invention. It is fast, scalable and reliable. We need to adapt it to our daily life as soon as possible. The main drawback is the positioning of the chip but that can be cured with the time that too with ease. One doesn’t need to worry about its cost as it is already a built-in feature in most of the android devices which are available in the global market today.
